Hunter Biden’s Hollywood lawyer investigates laptop story

the Hollywood lawyer working with Hunter Biden recruited a team of more than 30 lawyers and investigators to probe the backstory of how a laptop containing years of personal and intimate emails and business records found its way to reporters and the authorities.

The effort led by Kevin Morris, a maverick entertainment lawyer best known for securing a 9-figure deal for the creators of the animated series ‘South Park’, appears to be part of a bid to mitigate the impact of an ongoing federal investigation into Hunter. Biden’s tax records and business connections.

Morris and his team circulated provocative slides that tease an upcoming counter-narrative to political attacks on the president’s son. An ongoing Republican-led investigation into Hunter Biden’s overseas business dealings is expected to intensify if the party gains control of the House or Senate and gains subpoena power. Republicans say the investigation is aimed at determining whether Hunter Biden’s job created conflicts for his father as a senator, vice president or presidential candidate in the United States.

Both Hunter Biden and his father have claimed they never communicated about the young Biden’s business dealings, which included serving on the board of directors of a Ukrainian energy company and negotiating in China – a job that has has come under intense scrutiny in recent years.

Morris’ team includes field investigators in Delaware, attorneys in several states and forensic analysts who are trying to determine if malicious content was added to Hunter Biden’s laptop – which became the source of investigative reports and political attacks targeting the president’s son.

But at least initially, the effort seems less focused on the laptop’s content and more on how it surfaced in the first place. Based on Morris’ slides, several of which have been viewed by CBS News, the attorney’s investigative team is trying to trace the path of Biden’s laptop and determine how it got into the hands of the political opponents of the Bidens. Much remains unknown about how young Biden’s personal computer and its contents became public.

What is known of how the laptop surfaced publicly can be traced back to Delaware computer repair shop owner John Paul Mac Isaac, who provided his account in interviews and has l intend to publish a book on the ordeal. The store owner said Hunter Biden dropped off the laptop for repairs in 2019 and never returned. In an excerpt from the book published in the New York Post, he described how he saw some of its contents and determined what material should be shared with authorities. In a subsequent court case, the store owner said he turned the computer over to the FBI and also provided a copy to a representative of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

In a two-hour interview with CBS News Shortly after the story broke, the computer store owner noted that his vision was impaired and he was never able to clearly see the person dropping off the laptop. At the time, he struggled to answer key questions about how the laptop ended up in his store, and he contradicted himself on his motives for handing over the drive.

In the final weeks of the campaign, the contents of the laptop – alleged by the New York Post to be that of Hunter Biden emails and photos — has become a centerpiece of Trump’s political attacks on his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden. Controversy surrounding the laptop intensified as Biden’s camp tried to cast doubt on its authenticity, even as several major news outlets confirmed that some files on the hard drive were real.

Hunter Biden has never given a clear answer to the question of whether he dropped off his computer at the Delaware shop for repair. In 2021, Hunter Biden told CBS News he “really” didn’t know if the laptop left at the repair shop was his. “I may have been hacked,” he said. “It could be Russian intelligence. It might have been stolen from me.

Morris’ efforts on Hunter Biden’s behalf involve searching for alternate chain of custody accounts for the laptop and various copies of his hard drive, a source from Morris’s team told CBS News. The slides describe this as a “contextualized theory” of what happened a year earlier – in 2019, when Hunter Biden left his computer at the office of Keith Ablow, a Massachusetts therapist whom Hunter Biden visited to get some drug addiction help. The slides do not make a direct accusation against Ablow, but appear to question whether Ablow might have shared the computer with Trump associates.

Ablow, a former Fox News contributor who has been known to publicly mix his psychiatric assessments with his right-wing political views, declined to comment for this report. A source close to the events told CBS News that Morris’ theory did not match Ablow’s “previous descriptions of his actions.”

Although Ablow acknowledged that Hunter Biden left his laptop in a bungalow adjoining his office in 2019, the source said Ablow made it clear that he never facilitated any sort of leak of the material on it – and had in fact made repeated efforts to persuade Hunter Biden to get his computer back. The source said Ablow then contacted Hunter Biden’s lawyer to facilitate his quick return to him. The source added that Ablow said he never looked at or accessed the laptop, which was password protected.

Morris seems to frame the whole question of what happened as a Hollywood who did. Its graphic depictions insinuate that the laptop was cloned and passed on to a cast of characters that included several Trump advisers. The slides, however, offer nothing in terms of evidence. Instead, they include cartoon-like designs and contain a classic movie match: “Coming soon!”
