Junior Hotel Designer – New York, NY, US | Works


Jessica Schuster design is looking for a Junior Interior Designer with experience in hotel design. Our work environment is energetic, friendly and supportive. The designer / architect shall provide a visual representation of the concept and communicate orally and visually the objectives of the lead designer. The designer will be responsible for producing drawings and coordinating with the design team to turn SDs into CDs and will be responsible for managing all project related tasks, client meetings and contractor coordination working directly with the lead designer and the project design director, in collaboration with fellow studio members, clients, consultants and artisans. You will be working from our offices in New York, but you may need to travel for occasional site visits. The successful candidate will be motivated, passionate, a great communicator and will have the desire to grow with the company as a key member of our team.

Responsibilities include participation in all phases of the design process, such as:

  • Responsible for the development of the design and delivery of the project, as assigned.

  • Project coordination and project management.

  • Work with SketchUp and Autocad to create documentation. project scope, schedule, budget, staffing requirements and milestones

  • Efficiency in architectural and carpentry details.

  • FFE research and specifications: selection, design and documentation of made-to-measure furniture, finishing of FFE boards and / or boxes & binders

  • Attend client presentations and coordination meetings

  • Must be able to manage multiple projects and / or simultaneous deadlines.

  • Demonstrate design creativity and sophistication, be comfortable developing design and construction documents in Autocad, and be able to translate these concepts into various software platforms.

  • This position is intended for a wide variety of medium to large hospitality projects that go quickly with long schedules.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Work directly with the lead designer, clients and / or all team members on projects from initial design to completion.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an interior design assistant or similar position, but will consider other experiences.

  • Architecture or interior design diploma, accredited program 4 years +

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Sketchup, Rhino, V-Ray, Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office is required.

  • Knowledge and ability in lighting design, graphic design, and photography are all desirable, as are 3D modeling programs such as Revit or Rhino.

  • Knowledge of PPEC programs: design specifications, Spexx, sources of specifications.

  • Good organizational and communication skills are required, as well as fluency in oral and written English.
