GRAFTON—Grafton High School’s Sam Board entrance got a facelift thanks to two talented Bearcats.
Juniors, Connor McDaniel and Hayden Derk, took on the leadership roles to design the new window film installation on the entrance doors to Commons Hall and Scotty Hamilton Gymnasium.
Fourth-term Digital Imaging II students collaborated to plan the design. Students measured and designed the 15-panel Grafton Bearcats layout using Adobe Illustrator.
McDaniel has been selected as Employee of the Month for April 2022 by Riverside Designs.
Connor will graduate as a Triple Completer in 2023 in Information Management this year, 2022, and two additional concentrations his senior year, Coding, App, and Game Design and Management and Administrative Support.
Connor completed certifications in Visual Design with Adobe Photoshop CC2018, Graphic Design and Illustration with Adobe Illustrator 2021, and Premiere Pro.
Through the Business Computer Applications I and II courses, Connor achieved Microsoft Word and Excel certification.
He was recognized by the Grafton Lions Club as Student of the Month for October 2021 in Career and Technical Education.
Additionally, McDaniel earned first place in the Internet Scavenger Hunt Essay and second place in the Web Programming Exam at the SCORES competition held at Marshall University in April 2022. Connor is vice- president of the 4B department of Riverside Designs.
Riverside Designs is the Simulated Workplace company for Grafton’s Coding, App, and Game Concentration.
Derk has been selected as Employee of the Month for May 2022 by Riverside Designs.
Hayden will graduate in 2023 in Information Management this year.
He obtained certifications in visual design with Adobe Photoshop CC2018 and in graphic design and illustration with Adobe Illustrator 2021.
Through the Business Computer Applications I and II courses, Hayden obtained 6 Microsoft Office certifications which earned him the MOS Master recognition.
Derk is a member of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Hayden and a classmate won second place in Post Design at the 2022 WV FBLA State Leadership Conference and will compete at the Nationals in Chicago, IL in June.
Additionally, he is a member of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS).
Hayden is a competitive athlete on each of Grafton High School’s football and track and field teams.
He has been playing hockey since he was four years old, playing on various teams, including the Morgantown Mohawks.
