Penn Yan unveils new mural that focuses on the region’s rich history

A new mural has been added on East Elm Street in Penn Yan.

Local artists worked together to create a mural depicting the history of the region.

Artists included graphic designer Paulina Garcés Reid, sculptors Sam Castner and Lindsey Dean, and New York illustrator and muralist Carla Torres.

They started on July 26 and continued until the end.

The decision for the design was made by the community with contribution sessions and online commentary.

The fresco focuses on Abraham Wagener (Penn Yan’s “father”), Nation of Indians and Jemima Wilkinson. There is a farmer as well as a tractor, a horse and a buggy, and various items that encompass Penn Yan.
