Registration for SOMAS Children’s Summer Program Now Open – Essex News Daily

SOUTH ORANGE/MAPLEWOOD, NJ – South Orange–Maplewood Adult School’s hugely popular children’s summer program is back and will run June 27-July 22. The program is full of fun activities – from cartoons to Shakespeare camp, there’s something for everyone!

There is a wide variety of courses to choose from in the areas of creative arts, music, science, and sports. This “a la carte camp” is unique in that it offers a flexible schedule where students can choose their own classes – there are five periods per day – and make the day as long or short as they wish. Classes are taught by many South Orange–Maplewood School District teachers and talented members of the community, assisted by Yellow Shirt counselors.

In the creative category, camp includes glass fusing, song and playwriting, graphic design, beading, track design, interior design, filmmaking, mural design and more . Highlights in the sports category include fencing, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, juggling, basketball, and indoor sports and games. The camp also offers offerings to calm and center the mind, such as yoga, happy spirits, mindful club and more.

The camp offers care before and is working to secure an option for care after. More information will be available soon. The camp is open to children entering grades one through nine in September 2022.

All classes are held at Columbia High School, located at 17 Parker Ave. in Maplewood.
